The tragic resolution is constituted by a fundamental contrast: on the one hand, we are shattered by the destruction of one who is noble and excellent, but on the other we are fundamentally reconciled to this destruction because a conflict and loss of essential institutions that hold everything together would be even more unbearable. If s/he yields, the drama does not have to end tragically but if s/he refuses to yield, then the hero is destroyed by the very powers s/he refuses to recognize. In Hegel’s view the tragic resolution demands that the hero yield, give a little, recognize what s/he refuses, enlarge her perspective. Like Aristotle Hegel believes in tragic resolution. S/he refuses to recognize what, if s/he were true to her/himself, s/he should honor. Such conflict arises out of the false consciousness of the tragic hero, who, convinced of his own rectitude, embodies a stubborn fixity of will that issues in one-sided action that both violates another legitimate right and plunges the hero into self-contradiction. Such conflict moves the unmovable, i.e., the norms and institutions of ethical life, threatening them with destruction. In Hegel’s view the essence of tragedy is conflict, not a moral conflict between right and wrong, but a conflict between legitimate rights and institutions. Through the action of the tragic hero the main institutions of ethical life, the family and the state, come into conflict. is Marx and how he will lead a Marxist revolution as the main plot arc of the show. This chapter examines Hegel’s concept of tragedy from his Early Theological Writings, through the Phenomenology of Spirit to his Lectures on Aesthetics. This is long so I'll shortly have a Part 2 on how Mark S. Ego, you're both just parts of a single person, incomplete but essential to a single life. Helena even says this in her response to the termination request "you are not a person, I am". As the actress alludes to, the ego and id (parts of a human psyche under Freudian theory) will form one person. Much like her namesake, she will combine the opposites and come out stronger and more complete. This leads me to believe that Helena/Helly will reintegrate and will be better because of it.

Britt Lowe has said that Helly is the "Id", free from the watching eyes of the perception and completely doesn't care about what other people think. She will do anything to show her independence, shown by her defiant suicide attempt. She is fiercely independent-even from herself. (Side note: fuck Freud and all of his "Ps圜hOloGy") She has said that this is the "ego" of Helly's personality in the Freudian sense.

Britt Lower, who plays Helly/Helena has repeatedly said in interviews that she views Helena as being extremely aware of how to present herself since she knows there are always people watching. While we don't know much about her outie life, we know that she is highly loyal to her family to the point of undergoing severance. But her character and predicted arc is a deeper reflection of the theory. First off there's the name being a squint and you see it similarity to the word "Hegelian" itself. It's also explicitly the basis for all of Karl Marx's writing on the theory of communism. It's the basis for a lot of modern argument styles. This is called Thesis, Antithesis, and Synthesis. Thing 3 is a stronger/more complete idea by being the melding of opposites Thing 1 and Thing 2 come together to make Thing 3 I only took 2 classes so I'm far from an expert but let me break it down in a way even my brain can manage. Hegelian writing will probably be familiar to people who had to take a 200 level philosophy course in college or anything related to communist theory. Part 1: What is Hegelian Dialectic Theory?
